With nearly three decades of experience Marla Williams brings essential creative and editorial skills to your project – as well as critical budgetary expertise and accountability, and logistical and crew management skills. She has more than 25 years experience working in urban and rural Alaska.
Ms. Williams produces regional and national television commercials and is a writer/director/producer of broadcast documentaries, including Aleut Story, an Alaska-based feature length program airing on PBS stations nationwide. She also works with selected philanthropic foundations and non-profit organizations; examples in Alaska are Rasmuson Foundation and Alaska Humanities Forum.
Her commercial and documentary work has aired on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, ESPN/ESPN2, The Discovery Channel, The Food Network, and The Travel Channel. Her work has also been syndicated for international distribution.
Ms. Williams has produced or managed numerous documentary films, commercials, image campaigns, corporate films and videos, routinely advancing projects from concept through completion, including creative, budgeting, vendor negotiations, permitting, crew hire and personnel management, Real People casting, out-source contracting of equipment, location logistics. She routinely works under extreme field conditions, budget constraints and deadline pressures.
Williams is experienced in remote and extreme location work including air-to-air/air-to-ground film shoots and including WESCAM and other specialty rigging for aircraft, watercraft and land vehicles. She has managed aerial/aerial-to-ground shoots covering 100,000-square miles of Alaska requiring complex scheduling of remote fuel drops, crew movement, Alaska Railroad and independent, fixed wing aircraft. She has a practical, working knowledge of a variety of formats including 35mm, 16mm and High Definition formats.
She has worked across Alaska, and in more than 100 Alaska villages. Williams has solid relations with Alaska Native leaders and elders, essential to filming in many locations. She is equally at home with Hollywood celebrities and political VIPS. As a documentary producer and journalist, she has worked with A-list talent and world leaders.
